Welcome to my new and improved blog! I've resumed working on getting my Etsy shop up and running and I thought an upgrade on my blog would also be in order. I hope everyone likes it.
I've also been working on my enameling skills over the last few weeks. Since I injured my thumb I haven't been able to work on my soldering project. I cant hold the tiny pieces to file them yet but I can enamel! I love love LOVE enameling. It can be frustrating but it's so much fun to watch the colors change as you torch fire and then cool the pieces.
The pieces in the photos are made from copper and then fired with opaque enamels. I counter enameled the back for strength and durability so that i can wear them for years to come. I made the earwires out of 20 gauge sterling silver wire. The wires on the pink pair were also hammered and textured on a steel bench block. I'm so excited to have made the move to metalsmithing. I'm looking forward to all the techniques I'll be able to combine.
I also went antiquing again. Since it's the winter there are no garage sales right now so going to the Goodwill and to antique shops are the only way to fill my yard sailing void. I went to Lafayette Village and hit 3 of my favorite shops. Then I went over to my favorite co-op in Hamburg. I found the giant safety pin, milk glass cup (there are actually four of these) and a dressform (not pictured) all in one shop. I struck out at the other two shops. In Hamburg, I picked up these old West German glass lemon buttons, Italian glass mosaic charm and the pair of dress clips. The dress clips and dressform are my favorite buys of the day. The dressform is currently in my hallway and I think it's driving Colin nuts. I'll eventually make room in the bedroom for it.
Well, I need to go create some more and then start dinner. Again, welcome to the new Vintage Blue Studio!
