I Can Follow Directions

Apparently I can follow directions because look at this little snowman ornament I completed Saturday night...

I purchased the paper clay snowman tutorial by Dawn Edmonson/The Feathered Nest and made my own version.  I'm still debating whether he needs some glitter or not.  I started a second one so I may experiment on him.

After I completed both my snowman heads I had a bit of paper clay left so I made a tiny bird ornament...

I painted him in white and then added a wash of robin's egg blue. Then I covered him in glue and sprinkled him with a fine glitter.  Now he's all sweet and sugary.

I liked him so much on my small pink tree that I've started a few more.  Creating for Christmas is so much fun!  By the way, I highly recommend the tutorial.  It's easy to follow and as you can see the results are so cute!    

Joy

I'm having so much fun with my Christmas crafting!  I hung this up on my front door a few days ago. It's just the touch my boring apartment door needed.

Black Friday-Vintage Style

Welcome to the final Vintage Black Friday on Black Friday!  I hope you have recovered from your turkey coma and did not get into any parking lot fights early this morning.  I'm sad that VBF is coming to end but at the same time I realized I have exhausted my supply of black vintage items.  And with that I bring you the last of my VBF finds...

I'd like to thank Jill for holding this event.  I've really enjoyed participating.  Now it's time to get back to work on all those Christmas decorations! 

Thanksgiving

While setting up on Friday night, I purchased a tiny brown vase from Kathy Hahn.  I'm so sad because she had some really big beautiful bowls but the photos came out blurry!

Ceramics Show 11/21-11/22

My ceramics teacher held a student exhibition/show this weekend and I thought I would show off some of the photos I took.  I'll do this over the course of a day or two because there was so much fabulous work I don't want to make one giant post.

Jane also makes buttons and ornaments.  We swapped beaded earrings for buttons and I am glazing an ornament tonight for our swap.

And my final artist for this post is the very talented Jeff Stephenson.  Jeff makes these meticulous and retro looking pieces.  I purchased a pink and green bowl from him which I treasure.

 
I had a really nice time getting to know a lot of the students.  What a great group of people!  More to come this week!

Vintage Black Friday

I must apologize because my Vintage Black Friday is rushed this week.  I'm in a hurry to go to the supermarket and then head to the ceramics studio to help Carla set up for the show.  Also, the battery on my camera died so I'm somewhat limited this morning.

I managed to get a decent shot of this brooch/watch that belongs to my Great Aunt.  It's attached to a little cord you can pull so you can properly see what time it is.  I should put a battery in there and use it.  It's very cute.

And my final tintype...  A rather unhappy looking young girl.  Just look at the collar on her outfit...  

Well I'm sorry I couldn't do better this week but I have to run now.   So much to do and so little time!  Happy Friday!

I'm a winner...again!

 
Apparently I'm very lucky!  Not only did I win the Art Bead Scene monthly challenge last month but now I just won a beautiful hand-made journal from Magpie's Collectables!  What a good feeling to finally have some luck.   I cannot wait to receive the journal.  I'm not certain what I'm going to put on the inside yet but I'm sure inspiration will hit when I least expect it. 

In other news, I have been working diligently to get ready for the ceramic show this weekend.  I have made so many pairs of ceramic and sterling earrings I think my fingers may fall off.  I showed off some of the completed pieces and received positive feedback so I think this show should go well for me.  This is my first time selling my ceramic charms so I'm excited to see how they will do. 

That's enough rambling for now, I still have several more pairs to finish before Friday.  I hope my fingers hold up until then! 

Vintage Black Friday...the 13th!

As each Vintage Black Friday occurs, I realize I'm having to search a little harder for items that are vintage AND black.  I have so much vintage but it varies in color so I think I'm starting to run low on black items.  I may need another antiquing trip.  You can never go antiquing too much!

Sweet and Sparkly

I love hunting for rhinestone clips when I go antiquing.  Dress clips, shoe clips, scarf clips...I don't care as long as they sparkle.  I use them as pendants and mix them with beads, gems and chain.

I still need to finish making the clasp for this necklace...

I managed to find a matching set of these clips at one of my favorite antique co-ops.  I still haven't used its twin. 

A little antique doll body.  I wore this to work once and it freaked my coworkers out.  They thought he was "creepy" but I love it.
